Mark Burhenne
Managing Partner
Dr. Burhenne’s experience as a dentist for 34 years allowed him to see first hand how oral conditions and diseases had wide-ranging impacts throughout the body. This led Dr. Burhenne to establish in his practice the vital connection that oral health is the foundation for systemic health.
This insight motivated Dr. Burhenne to create and co-found the renowned dental blog, Ask the Dentist, a site with a readership of over 1 million viewers per month that empowers people with evidence-based easy to understand dental health advice based on the tenets of functional medicine.
As a practicing dentist, Dr. Burhenne observed many patients who presented with oral signs of sleep disordered breathing. Unfortunately, there was limited consumer information and diagnostics for this condition at the time, and this led Dr. Burhenne to write the #1 bestseller,
The 8-Hour Sleep Paradox, which greatly simplified the path to treatment for suffering patients and helped expand the scope of dental screening and treatment of sleep disorders.
Dr. Burhenne expertise in sleep disorders allowed him to serve as a medical advisor to Knit Health to develop and launch one of the most technologically advanced home consumer sleep monitoring system that was acquired by Google in 2018. Dr. Burhenne was also tapped to serve as the first Chief Dental Advisor for Quip, an oral health start-up with a unique preventative approach to oral health and maintenance. Having created a new direct to consumer category, Quip is now the fastest growing toothbrush in the United States.
Dr. Burhenne is a TEDx speaker, and his advice regularly appears on media outlets like CNN, CBS, Yahoo! Health, the Huffington Post, Prevention, The Washington Post, and Men’s Health.
He received his degree from the Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco and is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM), Academy of General Dentistry (Chicago, IL), American Academy for Oral Systemic Health (AAOSH), and Dental Board of California.
Dr. Burhenne (affectionately dubbed “Dr. B” by patients and friends) is passionate about helping people understand the connection between oral and overall health. In his free time, Dr. Burhenne enjoys skiing, photography, and mountain biking and spending time with his wife and family.
